Good Samaritan in Forsyth County returns stolen DVDs

CUMMING, Ga. — An off-duty police officer confronted a shoplifter in a store’s parking lot. The thief abandoned his stolen merchandise and fled, according to a Cumming Police incident report.

At 2:30 p.m. March 10, the theft prevention manager at Walmart, 1500 Marketplace Boulevard, told officers a customer told him he had witnessed a man leave the store with a basketful of DVDs and jeans without paying for them.

The customer told the Walmart employee that he confronted the alleged thief and he dropped the basket and fled in a blue car. The customer was able to get a tag number to give authorities.

The customer would not give the manager his name, but said he was an off-duty law enforcement officer.

The total value of the recovered items was $348.
