ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Free English as a Second Language courses and preparation classes for the GED examination will start this month in North Fulton County, with offerings in Alpharetta and Sandy Springs.
Offered by Gwinnett Technical College, English as a Second Language (ESL)/EL Civics is designed for adults with limited ability or no ability to speak English. Classes provide some English instruction and additional information necessary for immigrants to live and work in Georgia.
Registration for ESL classes is from 9 to 11 a.m. and 5:45 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 15, at Milton Center — North Fulton Campus (the former Milton High School), 86 School Drive, Alpharetta.
The classes will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 5:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Aug. 26 - Dec. 11 at the Milton Center.

Gwinnett Tech instructors have years of educational experience, and most staff have master's degrees and beyond as well as certifications in fields such as Global TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Staff at the Milton Center as well as in Sandy Springs also provide preparation and study programs for GED testing.
The Preparation Program for the GED Test at the Milton Center meets from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and from 5:45 to 9 p.m., on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The courses include reading, language arts, writing and math studies.
GED preparation classes in Sandy Springs meet from 5:30 to 9 p.m., on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They are held at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, 86 Mount Vernon Highway NW, Sandy Springs.
