FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A postseason tournament championship February 9 marked the successful conclusion to the inaugural season of Forsyth County Parks and Recreation’s Youth Basketball League. A total of 395 players on 49 teams in divisions for boys and girls participated in age groups of 10 and under (10u) and 12 and under (12u).
The regular season began in December with the 10u Boys and 12u Boys age groups being divided into divisions. The 10u boys were divided into a South Division and Northwest Division while the 12u boys were divided into a National Division and American Division.
The 10u Boys South Division Regular Season Champions were the Old Atlanta Park Trojans coached by Mark Unrein. The Trojans roster included Blake Bolen, Brandon Haddad, Andrew Harvey, Dylan Homes, Minjae Kim, Michael McKenzie, Derek Newsome and Mark Unrein III.
The Hawks from Fowler Park, coached by Wayne Owens, were the 10u Boys Northwest Division Regular Season Champions. The Hawks roster included William Bennett, Will Echols, Evan Furst, Ryan Kidd, Hunter Knight, Brady Owen, Grant Polston and Danny Shapiro.
The 12u Boys National Division Regular Season Champions were the Fowler Park Nets, coached by Shad Fleeman. The Nets roster included Kendall Fleeman, Mitchell Hollyfield, Brooks Holman, Connor Lloyd, Billy Moncada, James Rouquie, Mason Sheffield and Whit Sinclair.
The Hoosiers from Old Atlanta Park, coached by Scott Smith, were the regular season champions of the 12u Boys American Division. The Hoosiers roster included Maxwell Bitting, Sarthak Gore, Hayden Harrington, Cole Krucke, Quinn O’Donell, Alex Robinson, Andrew Roundtree, Cole Smith and Ryan Stevens.
The 10u Girls League competed in two tournaments, an “A” Tournament and a “B” Tournament, in the postseason.
The regular season champions of the 10u Girls League and winners of the “A” Tournament were the Old Atlanta Park Cyclones coached by Jennifer Fahey. Their roster included Kaytee Crumpler, Rebecca Dellaera, Carly Fahey, Allie Hengler, Reece Holbrook, Bailee Martin, Avery Svehla and Olivia Zeitlin.
The 10u Girls “B” Tournament Champions were the top-seeded Seminoles from Central Park. The Seminoles were coached by Sarah Wiggins and included Carson Cloud, Natalie Hubbard, Audrey McElroy, Lily Nelson, Vekondja Ogbogu, McKylie Olson, Logan Wiggins, and Amber Wojteczko.
The Jayhawks from Old Atlanta Park, coached by Steve Schuyler, were the 12u Girls Regular Season and tournament Champions. The Jayhawks roster included Ashton Beecher, Megan Donahue, Jen Kim, Jenny McKenna, Brooke Schuyler, Cassidy Sherman, Brenna Tate and Ellen Teeter.
The 10u Boys were divided into three tournaments for postseason play. The 10u Boys “A” Tournament Champions were the Sun Devils from Old Atlanta, coached by Craig Justice. The Sun Devils beat both regular season champions during the tournament to win the championship. The Sun Devils roster included Jalen Battle, Tyler Beasley, Charles Buell, Drew Clare, Ryan Esz, Grayson Hodge, Leif Jonassen IV, and Cole Justice.
The Cornhuskers from Old Atlanta Park, coached by Ted Dozier, won the 10u Boys “B” Tournament. Their roster included, Jared Carter, Andrew Dozier, Ethan Gray, Griffin Lagsdon, Ryan Mason, Jaydin Pounds, Peyton Ragsdale, and Harrison Siegel. The Cornhuskers upset two higher seeds to win the “B” Tournament.
In the 10u Boys “C” Tournament, the top-seeded Wolverines held off an upset bid to win the championship. The Wolverines from Fowler Park were coached by Jim Cook and their roster included Justin Cook, Mark Daly, Canyon Diamond, Garrett Hair, Alexander Hobson, Royden Kil, Matthew McClintock, and Caydin Mowen.
The 12u Boys were also divided into three tournaments for postseason play. In the 12u Boys “A” Tournament, the final was a rematch of the top two teams from the American Division. The Cowboys from Old Atlanta Park upset the top seeded team for the tournament championship. The Cowboys roster included Justin Bartle, Andrew Basik, Erik Evans, Jack Lowry, Chase Mangum, Ben Martin, Brad McEvoy, and Bendon Wehman. The Cowboys were coached by Mark McEvoy.
The Sooners from Old Atlanta Park beat the top two seeds in the 12u Boys “B” Tournament to win the championship. The Sooners were coached by Ken Duer and included the roster of Harrison Ahn, Jack Daigle, Jack Duer, Kevin Duer, Grant Fortenberry, Carter Jackson, Harrison Stang and Christopher Zak.
The Clippers from Fowler Park took the 12u Boys “C” Tournament title with two victories. The Clippers roster included Brandon Bick, Murphy Garner, Casey Gunn, Jeffrey Kempski, P.J. Lyle, Resse Mohesky, Henry Ott, and Logan Woodard. The Clippers were coached by Dusty Gunn.
