Make a difference in a student’s life by becoming a Forsyth County mentor for young students. Forsyth County’s mentoring program slogan for this year is: The Mentor is with you through your ups and downs.
This program is funded by grants supported by the Cumming/Forsyth County Council on Youth. The reason for a mentoring program in Forsyth County schools is simple: mentoring builds positivity and healthy children.
The Forsyth County Schools website describes a mentor as, “ a one-to-one relationship that fosters a caring and supportive relationship with an adult role model.” One elementary student said that her mentor is, “Someone who is very nice. She goes walking with me. She listens to me.”
A mentor’s responsibilities might include spending a mere thirty minutes a week with a student during school hours, reading to a student, playing a game, doing an activity, and even just listening.
Forsyth County is looking for individuals, businesses, church organizations, and community members to help with the mentoring program. Last year over 150 mentors were recruited and trained. This particular program is available to elementary, middle, and alternative school students.
Become a member by going through a mentorship training session. You have to attend only one two-hour session and complete an application and background check.
