Forsyth County District ready for new school year



FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The enthusiasm for a new year was everywhere as Forsyth County Schools were back in session Aug. 8.

This year, the district estimates about 40,300 students.

The district is the largest employer in the county with about 4,200 full-time employees and 1,500 substitutes.

Forsyth County has the ninth largest school system in Georgia out of 180 school districts.

From the 2011-12 to 2012-13 school year, the district added 1,722 new students and 16 of the district’s schools have outgrown the student enrollment capacity of their schools.

Ninety-nine trailers are on school campuses to accommodate the growth.

The district is projected to grow to 47,278 students by 2018.

FCS is home to 35 schools:

• 20 elementary

• Nine middle

• Five high schools

• The Academies for Creative Education (A.C.E.) that includes one 6-12 online school, iAchieve Virtual Academy. A.C.E. also has two programs, Forsyth Academy/Academy at Night for high school students, and Gateway Academy, an alternative program for middle and high school students.
