Georgia College & State University

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The following area residents completed courses with exemplary marks and made the President’s List for summer semester 2012 from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville:

Allison Ann Megel of Alpharetta; Ashley Samuel of Alpharetta; Sarah Browne of Alpharetta;

Lindsay Ayers of Alpharetta and Kelsey Schival of Roswell.

In addition, the following students from North Fulton and Forsyth earned Dean’s List honors for the summer semester at GCSU:

Amanda Clements of Alpharetta; Sara Deckman of Alpharetta; Melissa Reynolds of Alpharetta; Kenneth Donovan of Alpharetta and Nicholas Jerome of Cumming.

Jacksonville State University

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – More than 400 candidates for graduation crossed the stage to receive their degrees during Jacksonville State University’s summer 2012 commencement exercises at Pete Mathews Coliseum on Aug. 10. Jordan Allen of Roswell was among those who received an undergraduate degree during those ceremonies.

University of Louisiana at Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. – University of Louisiana at Lafayette student Jessica Castleberry, of Cumming, was recently selected as a peer mentor for the university.

Peer mentors are upperclassmen who are paired with faculty members and assigned a section of UNIV 100/Cajun Connection Class, where they serve as class facilitators and role models. Peer mentors’ goals are to support learning for first-year students and ease their transition into the university.

Valdosta State University

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State University has recognized more than 400 students who received scholarships during the 2012-13 academic year. Scholarship funds will assist students in a portion or all of tuition and other student expenses.

Local students and their scholarships include:

Kara Rice of Alpharetta, Annette Turner Center for the Arts Scholarship; Olivia La Selva of Cumming, Lee M. Bennett Scholarship; Nikole Fuente of Alpharetta, Barbara Pearlman Soshnik Scholarship; Anna Blackburn of Cumming, Dick and Margaret Nisbet Scholarship; William Stanley of Roswell, Enterprise Scholarship and Golden Circle Scholarship and Maegan Abkemeier of Cumming, Lorene Joiner Memorial Scholarship.

Chelsea Slagor of Cumming, Michaelas Scholarship, Music Alliance Scholarship and Valdosta Symphony Orchestra Scholarship; Amanda Calvird of Cumming, Odum Scholarship; Justin Bates of Alpharetta, Odum Scholarship; Melissa Hedger of Alpharetta, Odum Scholarship; Alex Porter of Roswell, Steele Business Scholarship and Cyan Ray of Alpharetta, W.R. and Dorothy Smith Salter Scholarship.
