Equestrians, large landowners of Milton needed Jan. 29

Transfer of Development Rights workshop to inform landowners of options

MILTON, Ga. — Anyone who owns a horse farm or large plot of land in Milton is asked to attend the Milton Community Development Department’s workshop on Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. The workshop will help educate the equestrian community and landowners of more than five acres about the TDR program.

The open public meeting will take place in City Council Chambers of City Hall, 13000 Deerfield Parkway, Suite 107 E.

The TDR program allows a landowner to transfer the rights to development from his parcel to increase the development rights on a different parcel of land. In effect, TDRs protect large swaths of land from future development while guiding smart growth and density in areas defined by the community.

An award-winning TDR ordinance is already in place in Crabapple, and another is proposed for the city’s main commercial corridor on Ga. 9 and Deerfield Parkway.

The department will have both a TDR expert and the city attorney on-hand to discuss the details and process of submitting properties to the city for consideration of TDR status.
