Eagles for Eagles raises funds for Chattahoochee Nature Center

MILTON, Ga. – The 10th annual Eagles for the Eagles Charity Golf Tournament Oct. 22 to benefit the Chattahoochee Nature Center was a glorious day for golfers. From the shotgun start at the beautiful Atlanta National Golf Club in Milton to the closing buffet in the clubhouse, the day was fun for all the participants.

Golfers representing major corporations in the metro area played to raise critical funds that will be used to provide environmental education programs for youth and adults at the center, now in its 36th year. Players representing a number of well known companies formed corporate foursomes. The tournament gold sponsor was Gunter Construction. Silver sponsors included AGL Resources, SEC, CPS, Gleeds, Troy Construction, Newfields, InfraSource, Colonial Pipeline, Benton Georgia and Latex. Bronze sponsors were Cox and IDI. Hole sponsors included North Atlanta Surgical Associates as well as Maureen Cowie and David Weiss.

Handicaps decided the low net team winners at the scramble style tournament. Taking first place for the low net teams were Mid Thorne, Susie Cook, Albert Church and Ron Miller.

The top low gross team members included John Mellot, John Barry, Richard Jacobson and Thomas Kuntz. Prizes were given for closest to the pin hole – hole no. 6 to Bob Schnorr and hole no. 17 to Gordon Pfeiffer. The “Longest Drive Award” was given to Gary Minor.

Richard Jacobson, chairman of the tournament committee declared the tournament a huge success.

“The Nature Center depends on support from this annual ‘fun’-raiser organized by the board,” Jacobson said.

The Atlanta National Golf Club hosted the tournament on their beautiful course, which sprawls across 240 acres of hardwoods, brooks and undulating terrain. Created by the renowned father-and-son team of Pete and P.B. Dye, it is one of the most challenging course layouts in metro Atlanta, with unsurpassed beauty, making for an exceptional day on the golf course.
