‘Didn’t know,’ he shouldn’t take metal

Man arrested for taking scrap metal from Alpharetta business

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A man was arrested for taking scrap metal from a south Forsyth business.

Officials at Metcam, 305 Tidwell Circle in Alpharetta, reported the theft after spotting a suspicious vehicle behind its building, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Deputy report.

James Thomas, 50, was arrested and charged with theft by taking, a misdemeanor.

At 11 p.m. Feb. 23, a deputy was dispatched to the business after reports of a suspicious vehicle. The deputy said when he arrived, he saw a red pick-up truck with a bed full of sheets of metal and Thomas hiding behind the building.

The deputy asked Thomas what he was doing behind the building and he replied, “Getting some scrap metal.”

The deputy then asked if he had permission to do so, and Thomas responded he didn’t and said, “I didn’t know I couldn’t do this.”

Thomas was arrested for theft by taking and transported to the Forsyth County Detention Center.
