CUMMING, Ga. — A woman received a series of calls from men who claimed to be from the Internal Revenue Service, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s incident report.
A woman in the 2000 block of Ronald Reagan Boulevard told deputies March 13 the men told her she owed money to the IRS and to avoid arrest she needed to pay up.
The woman said the initial amount was $3,600, and she transferred the money using “Green Dot” credit cards.
Then, they said there were more issues and continued to demand money from the victim.
In all, she lost $15,000.
Deputies traced the phone numbers of the men who called her. The numbers appeared to be run through a program that blocks caller identification.
