Creek View celebrates with Potlatch

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The children in fourth grade at Creek View Elementary concluded their Native American unit by participating in a traditional Potlatch. The idea for the celebration comes from the Native Americans of the Northwest region of the United States, who used Potlatch as a gift-giving festival and way of economy. The children each created items ranging from origami figures to duct tape wallets. After meeting in the cafeteria, each child was able to window shop other classmates’ items and trade just like the Native Americans.
