Craft beer for cool runners: Summer Break Craft Beer Festival joins Alpharetta 5k

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The Alpharetta 5k Road Race is back this year June 22 with a new addition to liven the party.

Sponsored by the Alpharetta Convention and Visitor's Bureau, the community event in downtown Alpharetta will include an inaugural craft beer festival with microbrews all over the country. There will also be catered food from Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub and live entertainment.

“We’re looking for ways to build community based events,” said Bob Marinich, CEO and founder of World’s Hoppiest Road Race. “We like creating a social event in the evenings where people can come out and partake in either the craft beer festival or the 5k road race and don’t feel like they have to go back home and take care of chores or run around for the rest of the day.”

In an effort to promote more community involvement from last year’s summer “Block Party,” the revised event will offer 100 craft beers from 25 microbreweries found all over the country and will provide a brewing seminar by Blind Murphy’s Craft Beer Market, Marinich said.

Festival-goers will also hear two bands this year – Flat Road, known for their classic rock covers, and False Flag, an Augusta-based band with two studio albums that will perform later in the evening, Marinich said.

Pyroteque, a fire performance troupe will entertain the crowd with fire-eating and spinning while the bands play.

“It is an unique event to Alpharetta that we can now add to our list of awesome culinary experiences,” said Janet Rodgers, President and CEO of the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Having more events in Alpharetta gives us more to promote to people in the southeast and we hope those efforts bring in more visitors to sleep in our hotels, shop in our stores and eat in our restaurants.”

Tickets to the festival are $10 and include a souvenir glass.

Registration for the race is $30 before June 14 and $35 after June 14. For information, visit
