ROSWELL, Ga. – The Cottage School hosted its graduation ceremony Friday, May 24, for the class of 2013. The 18 seniors were the school’s 28th graduating class since its inception in 1985.
Executive Director Jacque Digieso addressed the 300 attendees with a warm welcome and touching recognition of the supportive families who were responsible for the graduating seniors.
Identified as “survivors” of the economic downturn, Digieso acknowledged that families had made great sacrifices so that their graduating student could stay at the Cottage School.
Several academic and athletic achievement awards, as well as community service awards, were bestowed upon the class of 2013 including the AJC Senior Cup to class valedictorian Simon Hirschorn. Hirschorn, as well as fellow students Laura Lanier, Desi Levan and Evan Roberston gave poignant speeches. The invocation was delivered by Mariah Barnes.
This year’s graduating class includes 12 HOPE scholars, who will attend such schools as Andrew College, Brenau University, Georgia Gwinnett College, Queens University, Southern Polytechnic State University, University of South Carolina and Young Harris College.
In addition, the class of 2013 qualified for awards and scholarships totaling over $487,000.
Messages of gratitude written by the seniors were read by Principal Laura Finnell as the graduating students came forward to accept their diplomas. Following the ceremony, new graduates celebrated with a reception sponsored by the junior class students and parents.
