CUMMING, Ga. — On Oct. 11, Children Without A Voice and Ambassadors 4 Kids will host a community-wide anti-bullying event at Liberty Middle School, 7465 Wallace Tatum Road in Cumming.
This month is National Anti-Bullying Month.
The Thursday event takes place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and features celebrities, local community leaders, parents and students who will join together for dinner, refreshments and to raise awareness about bullying in schools and communities.
The event’s goal is to also teach ways to prevent the harmful behavior that affects 50 percent of children.
At the event, parents will participate in an anti-bullying workshop, designed to give advice and insight into the growing problem that children face every day with bullying. While kids in sixth grade and up will view a private screening of “The Fat Boy Chronicles.”
The movie was written by an Alpharetta teacher and tells the painful yet heartwarming story of an overweight and bullied ninth-grader.
The book and movie have received praise from students, parents and educators for their realistic, yet hopeful, depiction of life in today’s thin-obsessed society.
