City of Alpharetta to build ‘splashpad’ at Wills Park

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Alpharetta plans to spend $200,000 to add a “splashpad” to Wills Park’s Alpharetta City Pool.

To help pay for the pad, the city received a grant for $100,000, with a match from the city for a total of $200,000.

In February 2012, the city applied for and won a land and water conservation grant. The monies would go toward rebuilding the baby pool at Wills Park.

The city report to council notes the existing baby pool, which was built in 1987, is no longer [Americans with Disabilities Act] compliant and is structurally in bad shape. Staff determined that a splashpad would better serve pool patrons of all ages. The existing baby pool only serves children ages 5 and under, whereas a new splashpad would provide “water fun for children, teens and adults.”

The splashpad would be about 2,000 square feet and include an 18-foot by 20-foot mechanical building.
