Chopin Society Gala dazzles with Monica Pearson

Young talent delights patrons

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – The annual Chopin Society of Atlanta gala again graced the grounds of the Country Club of the South. Its special guest this year was Monica Pearson, the – dare we say – legendary WSB news anchor.

Also entertaining were the next generation of pianists who played flawlessly and fearlessly some of the great classics including the maestro Frederyk Chopin.

The evening was to support the Chopin Society’s efforts to promote Chopin’s music and advance the understanding and appreciation of his legacy, said Chopin Society President Dorato Lato-Folkert.

This is done through Chopin Society concerts throughout the year bringing internationally known artists to perform in North Fulton.

These have included acclaimed pianists as Ilya Yakushev, Alexander Kobrin, Ingrid Fliter, Christopher O’Riley, Sa Chen, Joyce Yang and of course Johns Creek’s own Piotr Folkert.

The Chopin Society also promotes music education among North Fulton students through their performing at fundraising events, offering free concert tickets and conducting after-concert essay contests.

Lato-Folkert said it is important to pass on to the next generation the love of classical music, both as art and for the enrichment they receive from it.

“We believe that music increases young people’s intellectual abilities and stirs their imagination,” Lato-Folkert said.
