Chattahoochee hosts marching band competition Oct. 6

Local high schools to vie

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Some 1,000 students representing 10 high school marching bands from Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina will gather Saturday, Oct. 6, at Chattahoochee High School to perform at the USBands Georgia Regional competition.

In addition to Chattahoochee, the participating local high schools include Milton, Roswell, Peachtree Ridge, Forsyth Central, Riverwood and Roswell.

Other bands are Ola (McDonough), Murphy (Murphy, N.C.), George Walton (Monroe) and Cleveland (Cleveland, Tenn.).

This is an exciting event for people of all ages. The competition will include bands competing in one of four classifications based on school size from Class I for the smallest school to Class VI for the largest schools.

The bands will be judged in a variety of categories set by USBands, including music, visual (marching and color guard components), effect and percussion and color guard. The scores in each category are added up to determine the winning bands.

Following the guest band performances, the Chattahoochee band will perform its show, “Welcome to Atlanta.” The final performance of the evening will be the Valdosta State University marching band, followed by an awards presentation.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Chattahoochee High School stadium, 5230 Taylor Road, Johns Creek. Admission is $10. Children under the age of 6 will be admitted free.
