Bomb threat at Forsyth County high school cleared

CUMMING, Ga. — Deputies searched the gym at North Forsyth High School because someone said there might be a bomb inside, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s incident report.

At about 2 p.m. Sept. 22, deputies were dispatched to the high school, 3635 Coal Mountain Drive, after a complainant said there was a ticking sound coming from inside a backpack.

The complainant said he took the bag and ran into the gym bathroom.

Deputies arrived, checked the gym and said no one was inside the bathrooms.

With the help of the gym manager, deputies evacuated the gym and conducted a full sweep.

Deputies found a black and white backpack on a couch in the boy’s locker room and a pink bag outside the girl’s locker room. Deputies said neither bags appeared out of proportion or had any sounds coming from inside.

The gym manager said the school was hosting a basketball tournament at the time of the call. Northview High School and Sequoyah HS were playing each other.

He said he had not heard of any issues from players or observers all day.

Deputies called the complainant’s number, but it did not accept incoming calls. Deputies traced the number to an address in Atlanta.
