Bold thieves steal from police cars

CUMMING, Ga. — Brazen thieves stole center tire caps from two Cumming Police cars parked outside a popular Italian eatery.

“That’s pretty brave,” said Cumming Police Sgt. Bryan Zimbardi, whose patrol car, along with another officer’s car, was a target of the theft.

“You’re banking on the odds that none of us were going to walk out to our cars,” he said.

The events unfolded Dec. 7 between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. while the police officers were having a dinner shift meeting at Provino’s Restaurant, 1610 Market Place Boulevard in Cumming.

The thieves took four silver center hub caps from two separate 2005 Ford Crown Victoria police cruisers. The items were taken from the passenger side front and rear wheels.

Zimbardi said the little silver circle caps go around the center cap, so you can’t see the wheel lug nuts.

The items have not been valued, but a quick online search valued the four stolen items about $70 to be replaced.

Police have no leads at this time. The thieves could be charged with interference with government property.
