Blessed Trinity scores key win in region opener

Rallies past Woodward in second half

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. – The Blessed Trinity Titans got off to a successful start in Region 6-AAA, rallying in the second half for a 21-14 victory at Woodward Academy.

The Titans got a big effort from quarterback Spencer McManes, who completed 11 of 15 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers.

McManes put the Titans on top in the second period with a 33-yard touchdown pass to Andrew McQuaid, but his lone interception was returned for a TD later in the period to give the War Eagles a 14-7 halftime lead.

The Titans turned in a strong defensive effort in the second half, shutting out Woodward while McManes tossed his second and third scoring passes.

McManes teamed up with Sam Roberts for a 61-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and fired a 20-yard pass to Dylan Cote to provide the winning points in the final period.

The Titans preserved the win with a late interception by John Davis.

Blessed Trinity is 4-1 overall, with Woodward 3-2. The Titans are off this week, returning to action Oct. 12 against Decatur.
