ALPHARETTA, Ga. – A black bear cub was reported in recent days roaming north Alpharetta and Milton.

The bear was first sighted May 31 near Westside Parkway and Windward Parkway. Subsequent days produced reports of it moving along the Deerfield corridor north into Milton.

A number of residents and police officers spotted the small bear throughout the weekend. The last sighting of the animal was Sunday afternoon, June 2.

“The black bear cub is making its way northward, probably to its habitat,” said George Gordon, spokesman for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources advises residents to leave the bear alone. The DNR however declined to take charge of the animal, Gordon said.

“They would not come out unless it was injured,” he said.

According to the DNR, there have not been any bear attacks in Georgia.
