JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Barnwell Elementary’s inaugural Science Day featured special scientific investigations with the goal of inspiring every student.
The presentations included special “Wow” demonstrations from presenters in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Students also participated in teacher-guided experiments while rotating throughout the school building.
Science Day was sponsored by the Barnwell PTA, who in cooperation with the administration and teachers set a goal of expanding innovative enrichment. Another goal is to help students to see the possibilities available in the field of science.
Science Day activities provided real-world authentic experiences that included flight experiments.
“Science Day was cool because we got to break the rules and throw paper airplanes down the hallway to test how far they would fly,” said third-grade student Rowan Holcombe.
Conducting DNA research on strawberries was also a favorite activity for many students.
Science Day was an overwhelming success according to the PTA, administration and faculty but most importantly to the Barnwell students who all look forward to next year’s Science Day.
