JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Johns Creek’s only juried art show returns to the Johns Creek Arts Center beginning with its opening reception Aug. 30, 6-8 p.m.

Arts on the Creek Inc. produces the Arts on the Creek exhibition, and the Johns Creek Arts Center acts as host, providing the space and hanging the show.

Ron Cioffi, president of Arts on the Creek Inc., said the artists aren’t necessarily locals, but many are.

“We are excited to have the show again. We began this as a way to bring the arts to our new city. Now, the city is sponsoring its own arts festival Oct. 27-28, and that is exciting too,” said Cioffi.

As of the first of this year, Arts on the Creek Inc. is an independent nonprofit organization and will soon have 501(c)(3) status. It started out as an affiliation of the Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce.

“We are co-hosting this event and considering other projects,” Cioffi said.

As a juried show, artists submitted work and are juried for their submissions.

The Arts on the Creek juried show will include painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, collage, photography and decorative and functional pottery.

There will be a first place cash award of $500 for each of the following categories:

• Painting

• Drawing

• Photography

• Ceramics

Visual arts pieces will be juried by renowned artist Patrick Taylor and judged by the talented Bob Ichter. The photographic arts judge is artist Debra Yaun, and the ceramics category winner will be chosen by A.J. Argentina.

Johns Creek Arts Center Assistant Director Sue Picken is hanging the show. She says the quality of the show is very high.

“The quality of the submissions has been extremely good,” Picken said. “We have had submissions from a number of really good artists and instructors.

“I do the hanging [of the show] and I get really excited about the quality,” she said. “The show just gets bigger and better every year.”
