CUMMING, Ga. — The community’s culinary aromas will simmer May 11 when the Flavors of Forsyth food festival returns with new offerings this year, including beer and wine tastings.
About two dozen restaurants will serve hundreds of hungry participants at the fourth annual event. There will be a sampling of delicious appetizers, entrées and desserts from local restaurants.
But that’s not all.
The United Way of Forsyth County uses Flavors of Forsyth as one of their annual fundraisers. Last year, $1.3 million benefitted about 60 programs and agencies in the community, said Lindsay Bohannon, office administrator for the United Way of Forsyth County.
And because it’s Mother’s Day weekend, organizers are predicting a great crowd.
“We’ll have Mother’s Day arts and craft in the kids’ zone, where they can make cards for mom,” Bohannon said. “It’s the weekend when families are doing more activities, mom is coming into town and we are trying to make it a lot more family-oriented with things for the older kids to do, too. We’ll have a gaming truck there.”
There will also be beer and wine tastings inside the Forsyth Conference Center this year — for participants age 21 and over.
Musical performances by the Glow Band will be on the main stage and local artists will set up booths.
A kids’ zone will have face painting, inflatables, a gaming truck and local performers including a ROCK U stage.
The family-friendly event will also hold a chalk walk competition where local teams and artists from the community will showcase their talents.
Parking will be available at the adjacent Collection at Forsyth, 410 Peachtree Parkway, and two shuttles will bring participants to the food festival.
“We’re trying to get everyone to park over there,” Bohannon said.
Flavors of Forsyth brings out the best in the restaurants as it pits them in a culinary competition with several awards on the line, including people’s choice, kid’s choice, best booth, appetizer/salad, fast dining entrée, casual dining entrée, fine dining entrée and best dessert.
