ALPHARETTA, Ga. — A new media department was recently launched at Appen Newspapers, the parent company of this publication.

With the new department, the Alpharetta-based media company will enhance its existing print publications through digital media.

The company publishes the Revue & News, Johns Creek Herald, Milton Herald, Forsyth Herald, Northside Woman and the Answer Book. The new media department will also create added value for its advertisers.

Hans Appen will head the new media department. Appen announced he hired Melissa Mayton and promoted Aldo Nahed to collaborate in the new media department.

Nahed, a social media expert, joined the company in 2010 and retains his role as business and news editor.

Mayton has seven years experience with Community Newspapers in Athens, Ga.

At CNI, Mayton served as the company’s marketing assistant.

She was the editor of two company newsletters and performed a variety of other tasks to assist with the company’s national advertising.

Before working in Athens she was a staff writer with the White County News in Cleveland, Ga., covering news, city council and education.

“I’m very excited about joining Appen Newspapers and being part of the new media department,” Mayton said. “I think there are a lot of opportunities we can bring to our customers and readers.”

Appen said he will be providing new and existing clients with web-based marketing options and solutions for businesses in north Fulton and south Forsyth County.

“This gives us an edge because we already cover print advertising and we will now offer a complete scope of advertising through digital media,” Appen said. “And best of all, we will do it all in house.”
