CUMMING, Ga. – Ring in the holidays with the popular Broadway musical “Annie” as it is performed at the Cumming Playhouse this winter.
The original Broadway production opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years. It spawned numerous productions in many countries, as well as national tours and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The show’s songs “Tomorrow” and “It’s a Hard Knock Life” are among its most popular musical numbers.
BK Productions (Bob and Kathy Russell) brought “42nd Street” to the playhouse stage last fall and now presents “Annie” for the Cumming community and all of metro Atlanta. The Russells are also the creators of the popular Georgia Senior Follies, which has sold out before the first overture for the past four years.
Set in 1933, “Annie” tells the story of a young orphan girl who gets to spend the Christmas holiday with Oliver Warbucks, a New York billionaire. The audience will meet some of the funny and intriguing characters such as Miss Hannigan, Rooster, Lilly, Grace (Mr. Warbucks’ secretary), FDR and many more.
“Annie” will be performed at the Cumming Playhouse from Nov. 15 to Dec. 9, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. For more info and tickets, visit www.playhousecumming.com or call 770-781-9178.
