FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The Northeast Georgia chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking residents to become trained disaster volunteers.
“By volunteering with the local Red Cross, individuals have a wonderful opportunity to help their neighbors in times of need,” said Sarah Egan, emergency services program manager of the chapter. “The local disaster volunteers are the foundation of the American Red Cross. They create community partnerships that assist those experiencing disaster.”
Volunteers are needed to respond to local situations, primarily fires, within Forsyth County.
The Red Cross trains volunteers to work with residents on an individual basis to assess their disaster-related needs, to open and run shelters and assess and map areas of damage.
Those interested in learning more can attend an informational meeting at 11 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Forsyth County Red Cross office, 133 Samaritan Drive in Cumming. Call 678-947-9900 for more information.
