Alpharetta begins fees for gym program

Residents get in for free, non-residents must pay

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Those wishing to use city of Alpharetta gym facilities when they are not in use for scheduled programming will soon have to obtain a membership first. The membership requirement, which began Jan. 21, is free to residents of Alpharetta and Milton, but non-residents will have to pay an annual fee.

Alpharetta officials say the program is a necessary response to an increase in use of the city’s gym facilities by non-residents. As surrounding jurisdictions have instituted fees for non-resident gym use, people have migrated to Alpharetta’s facilities. The result has been times when residents of Alpharetta are unable to access facilities, especially basketball courts.

Under the new program, an annual membership will be required in order to use gym facilities during open play times. Those holding such memberships will be issued a photo ID that must be shown when accessing facilities. Alpharetta residents with a valid membership will be allowed to bring one guest with them free of charge when taking advantage of open gym times.

To obtain an annual membership, residents of Alpharetta and Milton must show proof of residency and a government-issued photo ID.

Non-residents can purchase a membership for an annual fee of $50 for youth ages 17 and under or $100 for persons ages 18 and older. A daily drop-in fee is also available to non-residents who do not want to purchase an annual membership. These fees are $5 per visit for ages 17 and under or $10 per visit for ages 18 and older. A valid government-issued photo ID must be presented when purchasing any of the non-resident memberships.

Memberships, whether resident or non-resident, are non-transferable and may be acquired by visiting the Alpharetta Community Center (175 Roswell Street) or the Wills Park Recreation Center (11915 Wills Road).

A calendar of available open gym times will be posted at the beginning of each month at the centers.
