ANRC Shredding Event

On April 20, 2013 hundreds of Alpharettans brought their unwanted computers and sensitive documents to a paper shredding and electronics recycling collection. The event was sponsored by the Alpharetta Natural Resources Commission (ANRC).

“We had a fantastic response from the community” says ANRC Chairman Deb Zemlock. “The ANRC hoped to help people with their spring cleaning by providing a safe way to dispose of unused electronics and personal papers that were taking up space in home offices and basements all over town.”

The City of Alpharetta brought in Eco Shredding and Atlanta Recycling Solutions (ARS) for professional recycling of documents and electronics. All documents were shredded on-site and later recycled. Volunteers from the ANRC and Verizon were on hand to unload cars and help pack electronics. Items collected were taken to the ARS recycling center where hard drives were destroyed and valuable and hazardous materials extracted.

While the event was free, Eco Shredding asked that participants bring a canned food good to be donated to the North Fulton Community Charities Food Bank. “Our community generously gave hundreds of pounds of canned goods and donations for neighbors in need” Zemlock reports.

“We’re so grateful to our volunteers, our recyclers and our citizens for having made this a fun, easy and worthwhile event,” says Zemlock.
