Why you print the "Bad" news
August 13, 2014 | 10:50 PM

You publish police blotters because you want people to read your paper--bad or good. Readers equal advertising revenue. Don't pretend you have qualms about it. If you did, you would publish CONVICTIONS, not arrests, but that's too much effort. Instead, you play to the least of us and lead your paper with a gossip-worthy arrest blotter. It's public record, but don't delude yourself it's public service. It's profit-centered and sensational. It's not "journalism."
