I can validate Ray's point in the case of school employees. We had a case at West Forsyth, where a police report was made when a teacher/coach allegedly assaulted a student.
The sheriff turned the matter over to the school system, who placed the teacher/coach on paid leave, pending an "internal investigation" by the principal and her staff.

As a concerned parent, I wanted to know the outcome; they outlasted me. I made monthly requests for follow-up directly to FCN and the principal until I was eventually just ignored.

Unless you have some amount of leverage that can make the players really uncomfortable, they will not communicate their findings proactively.
