CUMMING, Ga. — A woman heard a truck strike her vehicle while she was inside her home, but the driver fled the scene by the time she went outside, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s incident report.

At about 8 p.m. Jan. 1, a woman in the 5000 block of Hedge Brook Drive told deputies she heard a truck hit her 2000 Toyota Tundra while she was inside her home.

A neighbor told the woman she did not see who was driving, but the truck looked like the one owned by a man she knew. Deputies went to the man’s home, but he did not answer.

About three hours later, deputies got an anonymous call from an acquaintance of the man. The caller said the man had just woken up and saw his truck had been stolen from his garage.

At about 2 a.m., Jan. 2, the man called 911 to report his stolen truck. When deputies arrived at his home, they saw his garage door closed, which meant the thief took the time to close the garage door from the outside before leaving the scene.

The man told deputies he passed out after a New Year’s party at about 7 p.m. and woke up at about midnight to learn his truck was gone.

The man said he tried to report the theft two hours earlier, but the call went to voicemail.
