CUMMING, Ga. — The Sgt. D.P. Land Memorial Lodge No. 82 of the Fraternal Order of Police will be holding its annual Cops-N-Kids event at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Walmart, 1500 Market Place Blvd. in Cumming.

The event helps to give a Christmas to needy children in the area. The children are selected through the school system, with help coming from the school counselors.

Chris Shelton, president of Lodge No. 82, said 107 children were sponsored last year.

“You would think in shopping with these children that they would be picking out toys. Many times, we see the children selecting clothes, shoes and sometimes food,” Shelton said.

The children and their parents come to the event location and shop with a law enforcement officer or representative.

Shelton said that the fraternal order is still accepting donations for the event.

“For every $125 we collect, we will be able to sponsor another child,” Shelton said.

Donations can be sent to the Sgt. D.P. Land Memorial Lodge No. 82 at P.O. Box 1374, Cumming, Ga. 30028. For questions, call 770-374-4020.
