CUMMING, Ga. — As the closing Sonic Drive-In restaurant began demolition, a thief took the opportunity to steal $6,000 in sheet metal, according to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s incident report.

An employee of Sonic, 6005 Atlanta Highway, told deputies the restaurant was going out of business and the owner was in the process of taking down the store.

She said they pulled all the sheet metal from the canopy of the restaurant and placed it beside the dumpster Oct. 11.

The next day, an employee from an adjacent BP gas station, 6025 Atlanta Highway, called the Sonic manager and said he helped a man load a truck with sheet metal.

The BP employee said the man paid him $10 to help load the truck and had permission to do so by the general manager.

He said he had seen this man several times, but did not know him well.

Sonic staff said no one had permission to remove the sheet metal.
