ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The eighth annual U.S. Collegiate Championship (USCC) returns to the Golf Club of Georgia on Oct. 18 through Oct. 20, with Georgia Tech as defending team champions.

Georgia Tech was ranked No. 2 in the country on the recent Golf World/Nike Coaches’ Poll after opening the 2013-2014 season with consecutive wins at the Carpet Capital Classic and Tar Heel Intercollegiate. Coach Bruce Heppler’s Yellow Jackets are joined in the USCC field by No. 4 Washington, No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 7 UCLA and No. 11 Stanford. One of the strongest fields in college golf is rounded out by Texas A&M (16), Kent State (19), Auburn (20), Southern Cal (23), Duke (25), Virginia, Clemson, Iowa, Wake Forest and East Tennessee State.

Individual competitors this year include 2012 USCC individual champion Patrick Rodgers of Stanford and Oklahoma State’s Jordan Niebrugge, who both played on the U.S. Walker Cup Team; East Tennessee State’s Rhys Pugh, who competed for the Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup Team; Washington’s Cheng Tsung-Pan and Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans, whose eagle at the final hole last year secured the win for the Yellow Jackets.

“We are thrilled to have the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta where numerous college teams compete at our own Golf Club of Georgia. We are proud to support the event this year,” said Janet Rodgers, president and chief executive officer of the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau. “With so much happening in Alpharetta that weekend, including concerts at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park, players and spectators will have an awesome time exploring Alpharetta.”

The tournament’s primary charity is the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides scholarships for children of American service persons killed or wounded in battle. Also, Saturday’s second round this year will honor the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Breast Cancer Awareness, with competitors wearing pink and attending fans also urged to do so.

Tournament sponsors include UBS Financial Services, Cisco, Amerifleet, David Oakey Designs, Georgia Tech, Fireman’s Fund/Lane McVicker Insurance, Core Roofing, Capstone Financial, Verizon Wireless and the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau.
