FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking Curtis Joe Motes, 27, for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and Violation of Probation.

Motes is required to register annually as a convicted sex offender and failed to do so in March.

Motes’ last known address is 5774 Adrian Lane, Gainesville, Ga. in Forsyth County.

He was convicted of child molestation in 2006 in Hall County.

According to Georgia Law, convicted sex offenders (any individual who has been convicted of a criminal sex offense in any state or territory) must register once a year with local law enforcement, providing accurate information about where they work and live. If registration information provided to the Sheriff’s Office is inaccurate or the offender has moved without notifying the Sex Offender Unit, then the appropriate legal actions are taken against the offender, such as Motes.

Presently, 113 sex offenders are required to register in Forsyth County. Eighteen offenders are currently incarcerated. Citizens can search the Forsyth County Sex Offender Registry and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Registry on the Sheriff’s Office website at www.forsythsheriff.org.

Since taking office in January, Forsyth County Sheriff Duane K. Piper has improved the process of verifying the whereabouts of registered sex offenders in the county. Beginning in March, the newly formed Pro-Active Community Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) Unit and the Sheriff’s Office Reserve Unit began to conduct regular visits to the home address provided by sex offenders at the time they registered.

“The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is conducting these checks as a service to our community. Our Sex Offender Unit has done a great job making sure county sex offenders register. We are adding checks to verify that self-reported information from offenders is correct,” said Piper.
