Arts Alliance announces availability of funds, grant writing workshops available for Forsyth County residents
$50K awarded last year for community projects

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Grants in support of arts that benefit Forsyth County residents are available for 2013 through the Forsyth County Arts Alliance. Nonprofit and governmental organizations that “enrich the quality of life in Cumming-Forsyth County by connecting people to the arts” are encouraged to apply.

Applications for funding are due on May 24 with funds available in July.

“This marks the fifth year in our distribution of funds,” said Alliance Board President Kevin Tallant. “We awarded $50,000 to nine various projects last year and look forward to seeing the benefits these funds can provide again in 2013.”

Some of the organizations that won last year include: Cumming First United Methodist Church for its “Festival of Arts,” the Cumming Playhouse for the replacement of theater curtains and Forsyth Central High School for its “Children’s Drama and Art Experience.”

Letters of intent to apply for grants are due by Friday, April 26.

The Alliance was created by proceeds from the sale of the Sawnee Arts Center. These funds have been placed in an endowment with the North Georgia Community Foundation. A local Board of Directors, representing business and community leadership, is responsible for stewardship and making recommendations for any distribution of funds.

A free workshop with instructions on applying for these funds and for other grant funding in the arts takes place on March 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Cumming Library, 585 Dahlonega Road. Registration is required.
