STARHouse gives thanks at annual meal

November 27, 2012

ROSWELL, Ga. — The Roswell-based after-school program STARHouse held its annual Thanksgiving feast Nov. 19 at Mimosa Elementary School.

STARHouse (which stands for Seeking, Teaching and Reading) operates in five schools in Roswell, including Mimosa, Esther Jackson Elementary School, Elkins Pointe Middle School and Roswell High School. They provide after-school care and tutoring to at-risk children who may not have a parent to go to at home or whose parents may not speak or write English. There are 62 students at Mimosa who take advantage of the program, which is staffed by volunteers.

For the Thanksgiving meal, Ippolito’s Italian Restaurant and the Young Men’s Service League Milton District served up food for those 62, plus their families. The meal was turkey, pasta, garlic rolls, salad and dessert.

“We have a lot to be thankful for this year,” said Mimosa's STARHouse Site Director Noura Abdi-Tabari.

STARHouse serves 251 students in North Fulton and they always have a waiting list. They can be found online at www.starhousefoundation.org.
