Four40 to bring American cuisine to Cumming
Firkin closes its pub atmosphere, menu may be similar

CUMMING, Ga. — Parag Patel wants to bring a city-inspired restaurant concept to Cumming later this month when he opens his new restaurant, four40 kitchen + bar.

The restaurant received its name from its address at 440 Peachtree Parkway in the Avenue Forsyth.

The new location replaces the Firkin and Crown pub, which Patel also owned. The doors are scheduled to open Aug. 22.

Once he broke away from the Firkin franchise, Patel dreamed up a concept inspired by the time he spent attending Georgia State University in Atlanta.

“It’s a city-chic modern American kitchen and bar,” Patel said of the new restaurant.

As far as the décor, he said, “We’re going to go with a very contemporary model, very minimalist, with a lot of earthy tones.”

Looking for a Midtown feel, four40 has graffiti-inspired artwork and will have live music from Thursday to Saturday.

Firkin and Crown patrons will receive another surprise if they revisit the new restaurant – the menu will be very similar.

“A lot of the menu will be more or less the same, just because we ran with our own menu previously – it wasn’t a corporate menu,” Patel said.

The menu will feature comfort foods along with various dishes that many people grew up with.

Highlights will also include specialties created by Chef Kirk Biondi – the man responsible for the specialty dishes that were served at Firkin.

Outside of the food, Patel said guests can look for hand-crafted cocktails, an extensive wine list and various American beers.

Until the opening, Patel will be hiring for all positions each week from Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Much of the staff will return when four40 reopens.

Once construction is complete and his staff is in place, Patel is looking forward to providing a unique experience to Forsyth County.

“One of my friends said it’s 90 percent of Midtown and Buckhead with 10 percent of the drive,” Patel said. “So it’s 100 percent in that way.”
