MILTON, Ga. – It's still Olympic season in London, with the world's greatest athletes competing against each other. One 14-year-old Milton girl may not be in London, but she's still bringing home the gold, after winning the top spot in traditional forms at the American Taekwondo Association World Championships.

At its Aug. 8 meeting, the Milton City Council joined Councilman Matt Kunz in honoring 14-year-old Cameron Comrie.

"It's important to notice we have a champion on the national level as well who has brought recognition to us and definitely deserving acknowledgment," said Kunz. "We're proud she's from Milton."

Comrie began her martial arts career in 2005 at Milton's own Karate Atlanta, and is now a third degree black belt. She has also gained state titles in forms, sparring and weapons.

For seven years, she studied Songahm Taekwondo and competed in national, state and local tournaments in order to gain ranking among other practitioners of Taekwondo – a dedication that saw her take fourth place in traditional forms in the American Taekwondo Association (ATA) World Championships last year.

She came into the world championships ranked first in the world among traditional forms for 12- to 14-year-olds with second and third degree black belts – one of the most competitive divisions. She took the title after a flawless routine that showcased her mastery of the Songahm 82-move form.
