CUMMING, Ga. — The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Traffic Specialist Unit responded to a crash Friday, July 27 on River Club Drive at the intersection of Sugar Berry Lane.

Units were dispatched about 5:15 a.m. to the single-car crash that left two injured.

A 2007 Ford Mustang, driven by Dallas Alexander Vella, 18, of River Club Drive in Cumming, was traveling north on River Club Drive at a high rate of speed.

After the Mustang went through the intersection of River Club Drive and Sugar Berry Lane, the Mustang struck the curb with its passenger side tire, and the driver lost control of the car and struck a tree.

After the vehicle struck the tree, it began to roll, flipping over one-and-a-half times, coming to rest on its top off the roadway and on the sidewalk.

The driver had to be extricated from the car by Forsyth County Fire Department personnel.

Vella was taken to North Fulton Hospital in serious condition.

A passenger in the car, Benjamin Munoz, 18, of New Chapel Hill Way,Cumming, was transported to North Fulton Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Vella was charged with DUI, less safe and reckless driving.

Due to his injuries, he was released on citations.

Traffic Specialist Investigator Ron Tomblin, said officers found opened and unopened beers in the car.

Alcohol and excessive speed were contributing factors in the crash, police say.

It is unknown at this time where the occupants may have obtained the alcohol. The crash remains under investigation.
