| | | (click for larger version) | | Visiting Nurse Hospice Atlanta’s fall benefit a success 2009-11-18 A Celebration of Life was the theme of Visiting NurseHospice Atlanta’s 22nd annual fall benefit. This year, the event took place at the Capital City Club-Brookhaven and featured a cocktail reception, sit down dinner, silent auction and entertainment by a comic. Liz Levine, long-time supporter and advisory board member, was the honoree. All proceeds directly support care of more than 18,000 home health and hospice patients annually. | | | (click for larger version) | | Junior Girl Scouts receive first aid badge 2009-11-18 Nancy Curdy, a nurse from Johns Creek Emory Hospital, volunteered her time to help Junior Girl Scout Troop 3645, out of Findley Oaks Elementary School, earn the First Aid badge. They learned how to handle simple cuts, sprains, heat exhaustion, and fractures, when to follow RICE, the best way to handle a nosebleed, the procedure for calling 911 and what to do before help arrives. | | | (click for larger version) | | Barnwell Elementary donates coats, mittens to NFCC 2009-11-18 Students at Barnwell Elementary in Johns Creek held a Warm Coat Drive in October, collecting more than 250 coats, 150 pairs of shoes, and boxes of mittens and hats in just a two-day period. The coats were donated to North Fulton Community Charities and distributed during their Warm Coat Give Away on Oct 25. Wearable shoes were also donated to NFCC, while the worn-out athletic shoes will be recycled by Nike to become track, court and playground surfaces. Pictured: Third grade students in Heather Perlmutter’s class donated the most items during the Warm Coat Drive last month at Barnwell Elementary in Johns Creek. The items were donated to North Fulton Community Charities. The Coat Drive is the first of three Caring and Sharing events held at Barnwell each year. The students will hold a Canned Food Drive in November and a select special holiday gifts for needy children from Giving Tree in December.

| | | (click for larger version) | | CHS students raise funds for ALS 2009-11-18 Chattahoochee High School health science students collected $652.50 for the ALS Walk in Centennial Olympic Park Nov. 14. This is the second year that CHS HOSA students have participated in the 3.2-mile walk. Last year they donated $300 and their goal this year was $500. | | | (click for larger version) | | Wilson Creek honors veterans 2009-11-18 On Veteran’s Day, Wilson Creek’s Student Council sponsored a Veteran’s Day Luncheon to honor Wilson Creek family and friends who are veterans. Wilson Creek provided lunch to 25 men and women who have served or are currently serving the USA in our armed forces. Student council members also created a special hallway exhibit to honor our veterans, displaying veterans’ and family members’ names along with their military branch. This award is presented annually during the State School Board Meeting this summer. | | | (click for larger version) | | JCHS Cheerleaders take first place 2009-11-18 On Saturday, Nov. 7, Johns Creek Varsity Competition Cheer team took to the floor at Loganville High School to compete in the Region 5 AAA Cheerleading Competition. Coached by Caren Hudson and cheered on by Principal Buck Greene, parents and classmates, the team took a resounding first place. The win in the 5 AAA division propels them to the State Cheerleading Competition in Columbus. They stained the front deck and landscaped the yards. It was Make A Difference Day, sponsored by the Paul Newman Foundation. The volunteers from Marietta United Methodist Church truly made a difference with giving up their Saturday for EnAble.
