Ruth Garland Barton, 83, of Cumming, GA died on November 16, 2009. Born on Garland Mountain in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late General Briggs and Beulah Mae Garland.
A long time member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, Mrs. Barton was a creative seamstress, ceramicist, gospel songwriter and poet.
She is survived by her beloved husband, James E. Barton of Cumming, GA; sons, Jimmy (Margo) Barton of Cumming, GA and Ferrell (Susie) Barton of Lawrenceville, GA; daughter, Tina Porter of Cumming, GA; sister, Bernise Garland of Dallas, GA; brothers, Dennis (Evelyn) Garland of Rydal, GA, Tom H. Garland of Adairsville, GA and Howard (Betty) Garland of Rydal, GA; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, November 19. 2009 at Barton Funeral Home in Adairsville, GA. Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery. The Rev. Hugh Johnson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at McDonald and Son Funeral Home in Cumming, GA and from 1:00 – 3:00 pm on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Barton Funeral Home.
