SUWANEE, Ga. The Lambert Longhorn Junior Select lacrosse team defeated the Pope Greyhounds to win the 2013 Mayla Cup last month.

Competing with 23 other teams in the Metro Atlanta Youth Lacrosse Association's Junior Select league, the Longhorns finished their season with a 19-1 record.

Most of the team continues playing together for the Atlanta Rage, a summer travel team, and recently took home the first place trophy at the LB3 Summer Jam tournament in Kennesaw, Ga.

"We have seen a tremendous increase in participation throughout our entire youth program," said Rich Wehman, director of Lambert Longhorns Lacrosse. "By design, the Atlanta Rage summer teams are coached by the same young men who won those high school state championships in the past. It provides for a very unique dynamic where we connect our past teams to our future teams."
