Events honor Day of Prayer in North Fulton
Breakfast, lunch for annual event

May 01, 2013

NORTH FULTON, Ga. Once a year, the religions of the nation are encouraged to host prayer events to pray for the United States.

The National Day of Prayer is always the first Thursday of May. This year, it falls on May 2 and will bring people together to pray for the nation's financial, moral and spiritual crisis, affecting all Americans some indirectly and too many directly as high unemployment, home foreclosures and business closures have left many people homeless and helpless.

In Roswell, local pastors will host their annual prayer event for the public to attend from noon until 1 p.m. at the Faces of War Memorial behind City Hall, where business leaders, local politicians and others will lead prayers for the concerns and challenges of the community and the nation.

"Prayer is our nation's greatest national resource, yet our nation's most under-utilized resource," said Rev. Neville Billy, regional coordinator of the Roswell event.

Ambassador Andrew Young will be the keynote speaker at the Rotary Club of North Fulton's 12th annual North Atlanta Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, May 2 at 7:30 a.m. at the Metropolitan Club in Alpharetta. Young is a well-known American politician, diplomat, activist and pastor from Georgia. He has served in various leadership positions as congressman, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and mayor of Atlanta and was a supporter and friend of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The purpose of the prayer breakfast is to provide a forum to celebrate and honor America's National Day of Prayer. Past keynote speakers have included Millard Fuller, Mark Richt, Bill Curry, Dr. Betty Siegel, Col. Michael Steele and Jenny Pruitt.

The club meets Tuesdays at the Diner at North Point. For more information on how to purchase tickets or table sponsorships to the breakfast, visit www.NorthFultonRotary.org.
