Woman victim of ‘front desk’ scam in Cumming

April 28, 2013

CUMMING, Ga. — A woman was scammed out of $405 April 14 from someone claiming to work for the front desk of the hotel she was staying in, according to a Cumming Police incident report.

A woman staying at the Sun Suites of Cumming hotel off Lake Center Parkway told deputies she received a call from someone who said they worked with the front office. The caller told her the computers were down and that they needed her credit card information again.

She refused to comply, so the caller threatened her with police action. The woman eventually gave the caller the numbers on both of her credit cards.

The woman told deputies she looked outside to see if the police were there, but they were not. She immediately called her credit card companies to report the incident, but the callers had already taken the money out of her accounts.

The woman said her Wells Fargo card had two charges totaling $231.90 and her First Niagra card had two charges totaling $173.90. The woman said she was unable to get the names of who made the charges.
