Chattahoochee and Roswell had four players each sign, with both schools sending one of its best to a service academy. Roswell running back Andrew Kwateng will attend Air Force, with Chattahoochee quarterback Travis Marshall signing with Navy. Both schools also had an Ivy League signee. Chattahoochee safety Brian Sykes will be one of three local athletes who will play at Yale, with Roswell defensive lineman Hunter Hill headed to Princeton. Chattahoochee’s other signees were wide receiver/cornerback Justin Jackson (Tennessee-Martin) and safety Josh Hearn (West Georgia). Chattahoochee coach Terry Crowder said he expects offensive lineman Brandon Keith and Doug Phillips to sign later. Also signing for Roswell were safety Alex Brandeis with Williams (Mass.) and cornerback Isaiah Garris with Point University, a small Christian college in west Georgia. Several other Hornets will likely be playing in the fall, including linebacker Grant Beidel, receiver/kicker Bennett Barton, offensive lineman Zach Adams and cornerback Demetrick Sodo. Centennial defensive end Lorenzo McWilliams signed with Eastern Kentucky, and offensive lineman Vincent Calhoun will attend Hutchison (Kan.) Community College. Other Knights likely to sign include defensive linemen Lloyd Glenn and Reggie Ben-Asemota, linebacker Ryan Bennett, defensive back Corey Grimes and quarterback Chase Rosenberg. Northview running back Terrence Upshaw signed with FCS power Appalachian State, with wide receiver Zach Sullivan and offensive lineman Rahil Prathap also expected to sign. Blessed Trinity quarterback Spencer McManes will join Sykes and Alpharetta’s Blake Rawlinson at Yale, with the Titans’ nationally ranked long snapper Tucker Etheridge signing with Louisiana Tech. BT punter Nathan Etheridge, Tucker’s twin brother, will walk on at Georgia Southern and have a chance to earn the punting job for the Eagles. Tailback Jordan Denson, who missed his senior season with a knee injury, signed with Mississippi College, a Division III college moving up to Division II. Defensive lineman Myles Kinder will walk on at Appalachian State, and BT coach Tim McFarlin said two-way player Sam Roberts is deciding between playing baseball and football in college. Mount Pisgah offensive lineman Flint Geier signed with Cornell and is one of five local Ivy League signees. Defensive back Ryan Felice will join several other area players at Davidson, with lineman Dylan Dixon also expected to play in college. Despite its success the past two seasons and a sizeable senior class, Johns Creek had only one player sign. Offensive lineman Sam Arrington will join 2012 Johns Creek graduate Kirby Southard at Mercer, which will play its first football season this fall. Johns Creek coach Mike Cloy expressed surprise that neither of the Gladiators’ kickers (Kyle Fowler and Will Somers) received much interest, and that quarterback Skye Overton, who has a baseball scholarship offer from Furman, was overlooked.
