NORTH FULTON, Ga. — Roswell and Alpharetta residents are invited Jan. 5 to participate in the 23rd annual "Bring One for the Chipper" Christmas tree recycling event. Organized by Keep Georgia Beautiful, this statewide initiative reuses trees by chipping them into mulch that is then used for playgrounds, local government beautification projects and individual yards.

This year's two drop-off locations in Roswell are The Home Depot on Holcomb Bridge Road in the Holcomb Woods Shopping Center and The Home Depot on Woodstock Road across from Publix. Locations will accept trees from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents are asked to please not drop off trees prior to Jan. 5.

From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Alpharetta residents can bring their trees to The Home Depot located at 5300 Windward Parkway.

Trees will be chipped into mulch by the Davey Tree Expert Company. Mulch is then used for public beautification projects and is available free to Alpharetta citizens.

This post-holiday tradition is sponsored statewide by The Home Depot, 11 Alive and the Davey Tree Expert Company. Local Roswell sponsors include Kiwanis Club of Historic Roswell, Starbucks and Super Target. The event is organized locally by Keep Roswell Beautiful. Alpharetta sponsors are Windward Parkway Home Depot, the Alpharetta-Johns Creek Kiwanis Club, Windward Parkway Chick-fil-A Store and the Alpharetta Young Men's Service League.

Since its inception, "Bring One for the Chipper" has recycled an estimated 5.9 million Christmas trees in Georgia. Last year, more than 8,000 trees were collected in Roswell alone. Last year more than 250,000 trees were recycled statewide.

Information for all drop-off areas is available by zip code on the "Bring One for the Chipper" website at www.KeepGeorgiaBeautiful.org.
