Stroller Derby Benefit in Cumming to raise funds for two area charities Nov. 10

November 06, 2012

CUMMING, Ga. — Except We Care announced their plans to host a new family and community event called the Stroller Derby Benefit on Nov. 10.

Eastgate Church will host this event that starts at 9 a.m. in the church's parking lot, 2820 Brookwood Road in Cumming.

The event will benefit women and children in need through two Atlanta-based charities. One is City of Refuge, which supports those in some of Atlanta's hardest hit economically challenged areas and Except We Care, which supports the needs of women and children struggling through poverty and illnesses such as AIDS in Africa.

"We are extremely excited about how this event brings families and businesses within the community together for a day of fun with the purpose of helping those in need," said Michael Haynes, former Atlanta Falcons star wide receiver and current board member of City of Refuge. "We appreciate the efforts being made by the community to support our needs at City of Refuge."

The inaugural Stroller Derby Benefit event will encourage participants to decorate, parade and race strollers against others for a chance to win raffle prizes such as a weeklong family vacation to Destin, Fla. or Winter Park, Colo.

Racers will be judged on their lightning fast speed, mind-blowing creativity and excellent showmanship.

Children will also race toy strollers in age-appropriate races as well.

Registration fees are $25 per entry.
