Autrey Mill Heritage Festival in Johns Creek - Oct. 07
The Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center held its annual Heritage Festival last weekend to raise funds to continue its mission of “providing the public with an educational resource to gain knowledge, enjoyment, appreciation and a sense of stewardship of the natural and historic environment.” The festival featured something for everyone including live reptile demonstrations, music by the Walnut Grove Bluegrass Band, historic automobiles, folk storytellers, face painting and more. The afternoon was a hot one, but it didn’t keep the smiles from beaming and the gratitude from pouring. After years of waiting, Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center finally received the promised grant money from the state for historical renovations and more. Milton Council planning for more parks - August 07
Despite its nearly 25,000 acres of rustic agricultural property, Milton is short on usable green space for recreation. The city has only has two functioning parks it has inherited from Fulton County – Bell Memorial Park, known for its four baseball fields, and the 200-acre Birmingham Park, a low maintenance, passive recreation field that has no programming and little use.

Artistic talents were showcased on Aug. 18 at the Student Family Center at First Redeemer Baptist Church in Cumming. The annual event donates all proceeds from entrance fees and they are divided between the There’s Hope for the Hungry Ministry (a ministry that has already fed more than 22,000 individuals this year in north Georgia, and donated 239,739 pounds of food in 2007), and our Worldview Missions Ministry. Farmer's Market in Cumming - July 07
The Cumming Farmer’s Market has been offering locals a diverse selection of locally-grown produce straight from the source for nearly twenty years. Starting with four farmers, the market has expanded over the years to now have between 15 and 20 farmers showing up every Wednesday and Saturday morning to sell the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor to patrons. The Cumming Farmers Market takes place in the parking lot across the street from the fair grounds every Wednesday and Saturday morning from 7:00 to noon, but it is best to arrive early—many farmers leave once they sell out their stock. 2nd annual Embracing Life event in Johns Creek - July 07
The second annual Embracing Life event raised more than $125,000 for Mercy Flight Southeast and the Georgia Transplant Association. Larry and Sandy Dean hosted the event at Dean Gardens. Forsyth County deputy given a Medal of Valor - July 07
Cpl. Richard Thompson of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office was honored by the Sheriff's Office July 11 with a Medal of Valor. The accolade commemorated Thompson's strident efforts to save William “Bob” Duncan, 66, of Jasper April 19. Though he was resuscitated by Thompson at the scene, Duncan died from injuries sustained while drowning in Lake Lanier. Photos by Jason Wright.

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit - April 07
This weekend, April 14-15, marks the 95th anniversary of the sinking of the great White Star Line ship, the Titanic. Some 5,500 artifacts have been recovered from the sunken ship, including a 17-ton section of the hull, called “The Big Piece”

Autrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center - April 07
The residents of Johns Creek have something in their own backyard unlike anything in the Atlanta area –- a historic natural park and center.
The Autrey Mill Nature Center and Heritage Preserve sits on 46 acres and includes an assortment of old buildings, all of which where originally within five miles of the park, as well as nature trails and camps/activities for young people. Dads dine with kids for Valentine breakfast
Hearts were big and smiles were wide during the Valentine’s Day Breakfast for Dads at the North River Baptist Church Center for Early Child Education.
Dads joined their kids for a delicious breakfast prepared by Jane Schwendenman, a member of the school committee.
After breakfast, dads joined their child in their preschool class where they made Valentines for mom.
The father/child Valentine breakfast has been a regular event for about nine years, according to Beverly Weaver, director of the preschool.
North River Baptist focuses on hands-on activities to provide the best learning experiences.
